Sanga and Reynolds (2020) described the common use of metaphors in Pacific research frameworks as a means to “bridge between thought worlds” (p.268), encouraging communication and relationships between knowledge systems. The use of metaphor grounds understandings in existing knowledge, imparting critical information to make sense of what are often foreign concepts in education and in research centring Pacific voices and challenging a wide range of theoretical, methodological, and political issues in academic research (Baice & Samu, 2020, p. 142).
